Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop Tuesday, February 3, 1:00 PM: Creston Winter is the time to prune many fruit crops, and up on the Peak in Creston, there is a farm with many types of fruit, with the multitude of trees, vines, and bushes in various stages of maturity. On Tuesday February 3, NC Cooperative Extension will lead a winter fruit tree & shrub pruning workshop at Richard & Vickie Horodyski's farm. The workshop will focus on successful pruning strategies for Pome fruits (such as Apples and Pears) and Stone Fruits (Cherries, Peaches, etc.), but there will also be opportunity to discuss, examine, and/or prune raspberry, blueberry, and paw paw, plus grape and hardy kiwi vines, etc. The workshop will be led by Area Extension Agent Richard Boylan, and co-taught by orchardist Henry Blackford. The workshop is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. People interested in trying their own hands at pruning are welcome to bring their own pruning hand-saws and loppers; and everyone should dress warmly, as this farm is high atop the north side of the Peak. For more information and/or to register, call the Ashe County Cooperative Extension office at 336-846-5850 or e-mail Richard Boylan at richard_boylan@ncsu.edu |
